We are all fed up with all the commercials about pills and products for weight loss, sometimes do not inspire trust but with the promise of a rapid weight loss, right? Maybe you are one of those who purchased and tried the product, and you were disappointed or in some worse case, left with health issues.

Probably you were disappointed and feel without help in your battle with the some suborn extra kilos. You are thinking what to do to get rid of the extra weight, to tone your body, to look more attractive and to fit in your clothes? Solutions are if you inform yourself. Probably you don’t have the time or money to spend on nutritionists or gym instructors. The most convenient solution: books, but books with quality, researched and qualified information. Let me share the top 5 weight loss books which I find very useful.

When you want to lose weight, you should keep in mind the following 3 aspects: nutrition, sport, and attitude.

One of the basic principles in Chinese medicine is that any surplus corresponds to a minus, and any minus, an excess. So, often, surplus weight can translate into a lack of attention, care, love, validation, manifested in an important sector of our lives, self-sacrifice, etc. Just as weight deficiency can indicate an excess of worries, tasks, responsibilities, work, etc. In both cases, however, what is lacking is, in fact, insufficient love and care for one’s own person. For this reason, addressing the symptom – excess or weight deficiency – does not solve the problem. Because the real cause is not addressed.

1. “The Obesity Code

The Obesity Code book for weight loss

The book “The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss” is writing by Dr. Jason Fung and it’s available in Kindle, paperback, audiobook, and MP3 CD. You can read it FREE with Kindle App and Audible trial.

Dr. Jason Fung completed medical school at the University of Toronto and a fellowship in nephrology at the University of California. He founded the Intensive Dietary Management Program in Toronto that provides a unique treatment focus for type 2 diabetes and obesity.

By eliminating all foods containing sugar and carbs, the insulin levels will lower, and you can control the appetite by replacing the ‘bad’ food with whole foods.

Covered topics:

▪ the heritability of (a tendency for) obesity

▪ The role of insulin in weight gain

▪ Benefits of fiber to gut health and how that translates to faster weight loss

▪ Probiotics — any reader interested in health should be familiar with this new field

▪ The power of fasting (yes, fasting) and why it’s not so extreme

2. “The Complete Guide to Fasting

The Complete Guide to Fasting book

By the same author, Dr. Jason Fung, “The Complete Guide to Fasting: Heal Your Body Through Intermittent, Alternate-Day, and Extended” book can be purchased in Kindle, paperback and as audiobook formats. You can read it FREE with Kindle App and Audible trial.

Fasting is still perceived as something extreme and terrifying for some persons. The subjects covered in this book:

– what is fasting and what are its advantages;

– fasting for weight loss;

– how to fast;

– resources – fasting fluids and protocols;

– recipes.

What I like about this book are the people’s testimonials on fasting.

3. “Never Binge Again

Never Binge Again book

The book “Never Binge Again(TM): Reprogram Yourself to Think Like a Permanently Thin Person(TM). Stop Overeating and Binge Eating and Stick to the Food Plan of Your Choice!” is written by Glenn Livingston, PH.D., a veteran psychologist who spent several decades researching the nature of binging and overeating. The book can be purchased in Kindle, paperback and as audiobook formats. You can read it FREE with Kindle and Audible trial.

Topics covered by the book:

– how to deal with carvings;

– changing your food plan;

– discipline vs. regret;

– binge anxiety;

4. “The Whole30

The Whole30 book

The book “The Whole30: The 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom” written by Melissa Hartwig and Dallas Hartwig. Melissa Hartwig is a Certified Sports Nutritionist. She is specializesd in helping people change their attitude over food and create life-long, healthy habits. She is the co-creator and CEO of the Whole30 program.

The book can be purchased in Kindle, paperback and hardcover formats. You can read it FREE with Kindle App.

5. “Eat to Live

Eat To Live book

The book “Eat to Live: The Amazing Nutrient-Rich Program for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss, Revised Edition” by Joel Fuhrman. He is a certified family physician and nutritional researcher who specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional and natural methods.

The book can be purchased in Kindle, paperback, mass market paperback and audio CD formats. You can read it FREE with Kindle App. The book offers a six-week plan with success stories from the people which followed the plan and lost weight and overcome illnesses.

How To Get Motivation

When you plan to start a diet or a weight loss program, you need motivation. Samantha Clayton, former Olympic champion of athletics says “you need to understand that exercises help you feel good, releasing endorphins and making you feel better. Caring for you gives you confidence, helps you feel stronger, especially when you make progress on your path to bringing your body to normal. I think when people make progress towards their goal they feel good, and this inspires them to take the next steps. When people feel too tired, they do not have the time or just do not do anything, laziness brings laziness. If you go through a low energy period, the lazier you feel, the greater the need for energy. Most often, when we feel the need for energy, we go to sweet snacks, and then we enter a terrible cycle like ‘I’m tired, I need caffeine or sugar.'”

She focused on fitness and became a personal coach at the American Fitness and Aerobics Association (AFAA) and the International Sports Science Association (ISSA).

Conclusion

You can find the books in different formats, choose the one which suits you best. I prefer to feel the book in my hands, you can call it old fashion. If you combine the nutrition, sport, and attitude, you will get results. The results are individual and based on each on one care, time dedicated and emotional baggage involved.

  1. Great post and good info.

    I know a lot of those books exists, and mostly are a bunch of crap to be honest. Eat vegetables and exercise. And that is what it is.

    Im going to delve deeper in these books you’ve mentioned, if they are really so good, I’m going to order one for my dad, he struggles with his weight, so this can help.

    Thanks for sharing it.

  2. The book on FASTING by Dr. Jason Fung is one book that I’ve been searching for years. I remember 10 years ago, I went to a fasting camp for 7 days without solid food but only plain water, sleep and meditate. That’s was an eye-opener for me. But now such program no longer exist. I guess with this book I should be able to fast at home. Thanks for sharing. Will definitely get one Kindle copy.

    1. Yes, you can fast at home, but be careful with the fasting method only with water.

  3. Great article. I think you are right in stating that most people do not have the money for a personal trainer or full-time nutritionist. Books have always been a great source of knowledge and these books are the cream of the crop. There is a lot of information and misinformation out here on the internet so it really helps that you have compiled such a trustworthy list.

    I think that all of these books have their own merits and using a combination of them would probably yield greater results than one at a time. I will definitely give them a try.

    1. Thank you, I’m glad you find it useful. Indeed, most of the people don’t have the money for a personal trainer or a nutritionist. The books are always handy and a good start in your eating healthy journey.

      There are many available resources, indeed, but it’s hard to decide which one works best for you. From my experience, reading so many books, I created my own habit and recipes on eating, something which give me results and I feel well.

      Thank you for your comment.
