Facial exercises have been acclaimed as a miracle for a beautiful complexion, offering toning facial muscles. They are believed to facilitate skin toning and balance the appearance of facial muscles. However, facial exercises are not a miracle. They do not wipe away the signs of aging or sunburn, but they are beneficial for the skin.
What Causes The Face Aging?
It’s not the face who ages; the whole body ages. You should accept aging as a normal process, do not fight against it. Our cells divide more slowly, and as a consequence, the repair is gradual.
Some noticed causes of aging are:
– during aging, we observe the loss of muscle mass, and you see the shagging of the face
– poor nutrition, rapid weight loss, poor sleep, stress, smoking, and alcohol affect the skin layers as internal factors of aging
– pollution, sunburn, chemical cosmetics as external factors
The muscles and tissue composition deteriorates over time, leading to wrinkles.
Facial Muscles and Facial Exercises
Unlike other muscles in the body that attach to the bones with tendons, the facial muscles are glued directly to the skin. Weakened facial muscles do not affect the body in the same way as the muscles of the hands or feet. It should be noted that wrinkles are caused by the loss of elastin, collagen, and skin fat, not weakened facial muscles. Repeated movements of the facial muscles, however, can cause expression wrinkles. Still, there are specific facial exercises that can be beneficial by repetition, without exaggerating.
Facial exercises are known as yoga, fitness, or facial gymnastics. These exercises, if performed correctly, tone the muscles of the face and neck. Thus, along with a healthy diet and a proper skincare routine, you can fight the signs of aging.

Why Should You Do Facial Exercises
Doing regularly exercises with the face muscles improves blood circulation in different areas of these. It thus helps oxygen reach the muscles and skin. Your skin will become more radiant, healthier, and have an enviable glow.
In the long run, facial gymnastics has the power to rejuvenate your skin. Moreover, because such a routine improves blood circulation, skin cells will benefit from the nutrients they need to stimulate regeneration and prevent wrinkles’ appearance.
How Often You Should Do Facial Exercises
Reading from different sources, I found different answers. Still, I believe that you will not see immediate results after one week, for example. It’s the same with body training; the results appear in time.
From my research, I choose to follow Peta’s face exercises. Peta is the founder of ‘Facerobics,’ and you can find her on her YouTube channel and her website. She has lots of exercises on her channel, but you should follow her series from 1 to 6.
Each series should be done for 6 weeks, 2 weeks of 50 repetitions, 2 weeks of 100 repetitions, and 2 weeks of 150 repetitions.
The exercises are done five days per week. What I especially like are the detailed videos explaining the worked muscles and describing the technique. Each series works different muscles of the face.
You will enjoy a good book, is “Fitface: Hands Free Facial Toning Exercises” By Charlotte Hamilton. This book is easy and fun to read with step-by-step guide to the exercises, which is easy to follow.
At What Age Do You Start Facial Exercises?
Facial gymnastics should be started at the age of 20 to postpone the first wrinkles’ appearance for as many years as possible. Highly elastic, young muscles are less prone to trauma and will benefit more from these daily exercises. If not, start these exercises at the age of 30, when the muscles begin to lose their tone. But you can even start at 40, 50, 60… because it’s never too late.
It takes a few months for a profound remodeling, but even from the first days of practice, you can see a real relaxation. In the medium term, the face is toned, the expression has a rejuvenated appearance. Is this effect lasting? You will have to deal with your image throughout your life. But facial gymnastics means for the face what body gymnastics means for the body: a progressive improvement of the face’s contour and tone, therefore an improvement of its aesthetics.
Benefits Of Facial Exercises

It’s so simple: facial tone muscles for radiant skin.
How To Do The Exercises Correctly
1. Before gymnastics, you will remove your make-up, and then you will nourish the face with a moisturizer. During gymnastics, the skin is stretched and must be extremely elastic
2. Exercises are more effective when you do them lying on your back
3. Wash your hands before you start the facial exercises
4. Try to do your exercise routine at the same time every day, to get used to it more easily
5. Do not harm the skin – this can accentuate wrinkles
6. Combine facial exercises with training for your body
Can Facial Exercises Cause Wrinkles?
Too many exercises and hastily doing them can cause harm to your skin. Personally, I start practicing the face exercises following Peta’s series, and the first result I saw was at the jawline level. The second result is the luminosity of my face. Even Peta mentions not over-exercise the muscles.
These are some things to avoid doing during practice include:
– pulling, wrinkling, or tugging at your skin with your hands
– scrunching other areas of your face while doing a pose
– doing too much at once
– not following instructions

Sucking on straws causes wrinkles? The movement your mouth makes when it grasps the straw encourages the breakdown of collagen and elasticity more quickly, so you are asking for unnecessary wrinkles and lines.
Inserting contact lenses can damage your eye skin and cause wrinkles. Wear specs instead; it’s cool and elegant, right?
